This trip started off a little rocky, but it was so fun. Guillaume had tests until an hour before our train left, so we thought we were going to miss the train to Belgrade. We made it to the train station on time, there was some running involved, but the train was late. The platforms were not marked so we thought we were on the right platform but it was really one over. We got on the wrong train because we just got on the train that arrived at the time it was supposed to and we didn't realize it was the wrong train until after it started moving. So we ended up getting off in this little town in Hungary that basically had nothing in it, had a picnic, got back on a train to Budapest, went out to dinner, and took the night train to Belgrade.

This is the field where we had the picnic.

Guillaume about to eat.

Our arrival at the Belgrade train station.

Brushing my teeth at the train station outside.

Me standing in front of the largest Greek Orthodox church in Europe.

We tried to have traditional Serbian food for lunch. I don't really know what we ordered but it was basically a log of meat stuffed with cheese and deep fried, basically the same as traditional Hungarian food, everything is fried with meat and cheese. I could only eat half, Guillaume however ate his whole plate and half of the stuff I couldn't eat.

We were so tired from the night train and our big meal that we just went to the park outside the citadel and took a nap in the grass. This is just a picture of that park.

The citadel.

Me at the top of the citadel with a view of the Danube in the background.

Us at the top of the citadel.

It was so hot, we found this water fountain and Guillaume just stuck his whole head under. I was so jealous, sometimes in situations like that I wish that I was a boy :)

That night we took the train to Sofia the capital of Bulgaria, except this time we got a sleeping car and slept so much better than the night before.
Me at the train station in Sofia.

Then we went straight to a hostel and I took a shower!!! I was so happy after that :) This is me after the shower in front of a mosque near the hostel.

This is the picture Guillaume had to take of my feet because he said that I was wearing Jesus shoes and the street looked old. So this is apparently supposed to be a picture of Jesus' feet.

Guillaume running up the skateboarding ramp in a park we walked through. One thing I noticed about Serbia and Bulgaria was there were so many parks. Just walking around in Sofia we walked through at least 6.

Me in front of the Greek Orthodox church.

Then it started to down pour so we were stuck running from tree to tree and awning to awning. This is Guillaume's Oh no it is raining! face.

The guards in front of the presidents house. I think this was the changing of the guards and it was really funny because we were standing under a tree watching because it was raining so hard and the guard on the left could not stop laughing because they were getting soaked.

This was the first official bubbler that I have seen since I came to Europe in February!

The next day we wanted to go to the mountain near Sofia but we woke up and looked out the window of the hostel and the mountain was surrounded by clouds, so we decided to take the day bus to Thessolaniki instead. Guillaume is sad because he wanted to go to he mountain.
When we got to Thessolaniki we went straight to the bus station to take a bus to the Halkidiki Peninsula. We didn't have any information about it, we just knew there was nothing good to see in Thessolaniki and we wanted to go to the beach. We asked this Greek girl for a list of good towns on the Halkidiki Peninsula and we went to the city that had the soonest bus leaving - Nikiti.
The next morning we woke up and had a picnic on the beach.

Our picnic of feta cheese and tomatoes.

Picture of the beach in Nikiti after our picnic.
Then we decided to rent a moped and drive up the Peninsula. I told Guillaume when we left that we should get some gas because it was practically on empty but of course we didn't, so we ended up running out of gas.
So I just went to the closest beach with the moped while Guillaume got a random ride from some Greek guy on a moped to go get gas.

Guillaume filling the gas tank with gas he had to hitch hike to get.
After we filled it, it still didn't work. We had to call the rental place to have someone come out and fix it.

Me and Guillaume at the beach where we had to wait for the moped man to come and fix the moped.
Finally it was fixed and we drove all the way to the tip of the Peninsula. If you look at the Halkidiki Peninsula and the three fingers, we were on the middle finger.

Me and Guillaume at the beach we found at the tip of the peninsula.

My first time driving a moped.

We stopped at a vineyard on the way back to Nikiti.
Me with the bottle of wine we bought at the winery.
The next day we decided to swim in the morning and go to stay in another town called Sarti on the other side of the Peninsula in the afternoon.

Picture of the beach we went swimming at in Nikiti.

My first actual swim in the Mediterranean.

Guillaume trying to keep out of the sun on the beach. :)

Picture of the vineyards on the way to Sarti. This is where we got our wine from the day before.

This was the view when we got to the beach in Sarti. You can barely see it but there is a mountain across the water.

The landscape was so different on this side of the Peninsula. There were mountains and cliffs.
Me on the beach in Sarti.

Guillaume lounging on the beach in Sarti.

That night we had Moussaka for dinner.

....and baklava for dessert!! Guillaume had never tried it before, it was so so so good!!
The next morning at 7 we had to catch a bus to Thessolaniki so that we could catch our flight to Vienna and take a bus back to Budapest. It was a really long day, but totally worth it because I had the best time on this trip!
