Bus Tour of Budapest

On Friday all of the erasmus students (erasmus is a program for european students to study abroad in other european countries, but they just called all of us erasmus students) went on a bus tour of Budapest in the afternoon. It was really fun because we have been at the school for 2 days and I have really only seen the street and area that we live on and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics campus.

This is at the top of Gellert Hill in Buda. Gellert Hill is named after the bishop Gellert who helped Kind Stephen convert all of Hungary to Catholicism around the year 1000. From left to right is my roommate Eline, me, and Anson (Australia). Anson works and goes to school in Australia and he says he is familiar with P&H Mining, funny coincidence.

Buda is on the left and Pest on the right.
Ana (Spain), Ryan, and Andy.

From right to left is Eline, me, Megha (an Indian girl who goes to school in Singapore), and Mary (a French girl who goes to the same school as my roommate Lorriane in Strasbourg).

This is just a zoomed in view of the Szechenyi chain bridge, the oldest bridge in Budapest.

View of Pest.

Heroes Square is in Pest. It is a large square at the beginning of Andrassy ut. (street) Heroes Square has 15 statues of historically significant Hungarians. The only one I can remember is St. Stephen and St. Gellert.

This is Andrassy ut. It is 2 km long and leads to the city center. There are many embassies and expensive old houses down this street.

A huge building that is really old. I don't seem to remember what it is but I'm sure it is important. :)

The Royal Palace on Castle Hill in Buda and part of my tour guide's head :) This was originally built in the 13th century but destroyed after the Turkish invaded so this is not the original structure.

The other side of the palace.

The palace once we reached the top of Castle Hill.

A replica of a statue in the Prague castle. I must have seen this statue when I was in Prague, I don't remember.

View of parliament from Castle Hill.

The inside of St. Matias Church, which is actually supposed to be named after Mary. It is next to the royal palace on Castle Hill. King Stephen's son died leaving him with no heir so it was said that he crowned the virgin Mary ruler of Hungary.

Annie, blown away by Budapest. What great pictures! Keep this up. Heroes Square is the one Carol LaLoggia showed us pictures of the Friday before you left. Force yourself to learn all that you can about the history of the place.

Keep the good times coming.
